Out on the western part of Racine County, close to the border of Walworth County is the Village of Waterford. Waterford began in 1860 with a population of 460 people and today has grown to almost 5,400.
Around Waterford, there are many different parks and natural areas to explore. There’s Tichigan Wildlife Area to the north, Case Eagle Park to the south, Beaumont Park to the east, and Honey Creek Wildlife Area to the west. All of these offer a great opportunity to get out and hike the trails, all while taking in the beauty of the nature around you. Close to downtown Waterford, there is that Waterford Woods Park, which is home to the Rivermoor Golf Club. This 6,300 yard, par 70 course provides a challenge to golfers of all skill levels, and has ponds and streams on 7 of the 18 holes. Rivermoor has hosted a variety of events, including the US Open Mid-Amateur Qualifier.
One of the big events that bring people to Waterford is the Waterford Balloonfest. The festival runs over the course of a few days and offers free admission. Some of the events of Balloonfest include competitive balloon flights, live music, and tethered balloon rides. These balloon rides are a fun experience for the whole family and provide a great photo opportunity. For the adults, head on over to the Barnes Road Beer Garden for some live music and some good beer.
