The Village of Wind Point is located on the shores of Lake Michigan at the eastern tip of Racine County. As of 2010, Wind Point had a population of 1,723.
The conveniently named Wind Point Lighthouse is a big tourist attraction and helps Wind Point stick out along the coastline. The lighthouse was built in 1880 and has been well-maintained and preserved over the years. Today, the lighthouse is open for tours so anyone can explore and see the inside for themselves. Open Tower Days allow for anyone to come and see the lighthouse on specific days, where larger groups will need to make a reservation in advance. The lighthouse grounds also have a park & beach area where visitors can have a nice lunch, relax, or jump in the cool waters of Lake Michigan.
One of Frank Lloyd Wright’s most expensive and elaborate houses is located within the village. Wingspread was built in 1939 for the president of S.C. Johnson, but today it serves as a conference center for The Johnson Foundation. The building was designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1989. The house is one-of-a-kind and should be a must-see for those who adore Wright’s work.
